"Happiness lies in your own hands."

Danielle, Genevieve, Gail, and I were supposed to go see Brokeback Mountain tonight, but it wasn't playing at the Bellevue. Not really interested in settling for Capote, or paying $9 a ticket, we instead to the very expensive Cheesecake Factory to eat. Yikes, expensive.

It was a good night out, though; good, head-clearing time.

Gay cowboy sexin' will have to wait, though. It's supposed to come out on DVD on the 4th, so that's good, then. I also got Crash to see and finally figure out what the fucking big deal is. I must say that I am interested in seeing both of them, but the people behind Brokeback have been the most ungrateful bitches in the press. "We were robbed!" is strewn all over, which may or may not be true for the otherwise 4-time Oscar winner.

But you don't actually say that... you let the press say it or something, and let the grapes sour further down the vine. They sound incredibly self-righteous in the process, and awfully self-important even if their film is really amazing.

I am reminded of the Oscar's some years back when Paul Thomas Anderson was nominated for Best Director, for Magnolia, and when he didn't win, he actually looked offended and confused.

Geez. What bugs the hell out of me, also, is that several gay-rights people are complaining about it. As if there's some obvious homophobia about the film being nominated and then not selected. Oh, the scandal! Oh, the injustice! They clearly don't have liberal minds! Right.

Regardless of Crash's merit, they've certainly got to be the latest Marissa Tomei-- they won and it's the new big joke, regardless of whether the title is deserved.
