"I'm curious for you."

Upcoming events:

7/12 -- Libertine Ball
White Elephant is heading to Philadelphia for their second stage show in a row for the prestigious kink event. Festivities are hosted at Club Shampoo, a fantastic venue I had the pleasure of filming the Voltaire video from January in.

7/13 -- Six Flags
Matt and I are heading to Great Adventure.

7/16 -- Damn Yankees
Matt and I are going to the NYC Center to see Jane Krakowski, Cheyenne Jackson, and Sean Hayes in one of my very favorite musicals no one knows I love. (It does rarely come up in conversation)

7/25 -- Live at Dingbatz
White Elephant has it's second gig of July at the rock club Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. We performed there for the Rockstars & Strippers Magazine issue 3 release party. Because we got so many people to come and namecheck us at the door, they invited us back. Seriously, this one was earned; hetero boy rock fans are a tough audience, and to be thought of again is extremely flattering.

Throughout this are rehearsals, regular work schedules, and any number of hours dedicated to preparing for the tradeshow in the first week of August (wow that one snuck up on us.)

"I never forgot it, confusing as it was."

Someone posted on ONTD (a celebrity gabfest on LJ) about homophobia (specifically Hancock getting slapped by GLAAD for what has almost unanimously been voted by ONTD'ers as a non-issue) and Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" came up. I liked what me another poster were saying, so here's what it is:

#1: "I'm beginning to find that song a bit offensive. Especially the part where she talks about how that's not what good girls do."

George: "Well, she is cheating on her boyfriend."

#2: "i'm pretty sure the "boyfriend" mentioned in that song serves only to highlight the fact that she's straight, and kissing a girl, which is SEXAAAYYY"

George: "Ok. I guess her saying that it's not what good girls do serves only to highlight that she actually is a self-hater who burns her feet for having lesbian thoughts due to the sheltered, conservative upbringing she had.
I like stories."

#2: "... or, given the context of the tone of the song and the way the video is presented, her saying it's not what "good girls" do could have something to do with the "good girl gone bad" trope that is in pretty heavy rotation among females in pop music these days (rhianna, danity kane), again simply a tool to make herself appear more sexually provocative.
or maybe i'm wasting my time thinking about this? yeah. mrs. dalloway is a much more appealing lady than katy perry."

George: "Probably... but if you listen to the lyrics to "Good Girl Gone Bad," it is not something Rihanna aspires to. I get your point, though; to name her album that sorta implies it's an achievement (or at least a state of reality.)
But you know, I'm not sure if Katy Perry is really waving the act of kissing a girl like a badge of honor. She's not really saying "hah, look how subcultural I am." Instead, I think she's saying "what's the big deal?" And if there's no big deal, then it's not a conquest. And if it's not a conquest, well, then she can't get street cred for it.
Yes, she made it a song. I think the fans made it an anthem. Contextually, though, she sounds as moved as if she had spent the night darning socks.
And again, she does mention the boyfriend. So she's saying she hopes he doesn't mind, as in it's not necessarily something that would get him off if he found out about nor did he say "hey baby, this would turn me on." Also, if she's got a boyfriend, she's not exactly shouting it out to gentlemen callers so they'll like her better. Then again, you have the infidelity (maybe) aspect so maybe she does think it's a badge of honor.
And I like that you're making me think about this "too much." I think it's the function of art."
